Brevard College

Jubal Tiner is a native Kansan, but has taught at a number of colleges and universities throughout the Midwest. He came to Brevard College www.brevard.edu in 2006 and received tenure and promotion in 2012. He teaches primarily creative writing (Fiction Writing, Creative Nonfiction Writing, Introduction to Creative Writing) as well as film, literature, and composition classes. He is founder and editor of Pisgah Review www.pisgahreveiw.com, a national literary journal associated with BC, which offers the opportunity for students to serve on the editorial board, with an English major acting as Managing Editor. He is also the current LINC Coordinator, helping create paired classes (for example, he has taught an Introduction to Film class that is paired with a Music Appreciation class, with the goal of looking at Music in Film). Tiner is also the advisor for the BC Student Literary and Arts journal, Chiaroscuro.He writes and publishes primarily fiction (see publications on this site), and his novel-in-stories manuscript, The Waterhouse, was a finalist for the James Jones First Novel Fellowship. The Waterhouse was published by Press 53 (www.press53.com) in Spring 2012 and subsequently won an IPPY Award (Bronze Award) for best fictional representation of the Mid-West.
